The Festa del malgaro (Shepherds’ festival) in Ovaro, held to recall the world of malghe and to introduce the public to the cheese-making process, is a wonderful, unique experience you must try. Another highlight is Arlois e Fasois in Pesariis, an appointment with two typical products of Val Pesarina: clocks and beans; the award-giving ceremony for the Sampogn contest, for the traditional bells hung on the neck of cows, in the stunning setting of Pesariis village. And that’s not all!... there’s also Sapori di Carnia (Flavours of Carnia) in Raveo! Crowds flock to the eagerly awaited market festival of mouth-watering, agro-food products from Carnia, brightening the busy village streets with their high spirits and curiosity.
A mountain known to all cycling enthusiasts, and one of the most rigorous and exciting stages of the Giro d’Italia. If you set out to climb it you’ll need to be in good condition and have plenty of determination, but your effort will be repaid with an intense satisfaction. The ascent, from Ovaro, presents harsh inclines and some hairpin bends, predominantly tight and steep, alternating with long straight stretches with gradients that often exceed 15 percent.
