Sauris

The albergo diffuso Sauris is surrounded by a spectacular
ring of mountains, which provide a picturesque snow-capped
landscape in winter in the highest municipality in Friuli Venezia
Giulia. Sauris is a very special municipality, where they
still speak a Germanic language, bearing witness to the
history of the whole valley, whose first inhabitants allegedly
came from Carinthia and Tyrol. The influence of this
still deeply-ingrained Germanic culture can also be seen by
merely strolling through the small hamlets and narrow flagstone
lanes overlooked by splendid stone and wood houses
retaining all their original features, with their characteristic
shingle roofs and elegant landings and banisters, which offer
a stunning view over the whole valley. The albergo diffuso
